It’s what makes us exceptional.” It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation.’ A dry truth, from a questionable source, but impossible to deny. A nation that supposes itself an exception to the standards observed by others is a good deal like a person who thinks himself an exception."
