Carl

I didn't address your question adequately on AWARE Tuesday, when you suggested "Energy" was not an issue in relation to Thailand. You are correct in that the oil companies have not had a major interest in Thailand, as they do Indonesia which is a major source of oil resources in the region.

Unical had a presence SE Asia, during the 80's and 90's when they were having Total build a pipeline through Burma, where much of Thailand's energy comes from. There is oil in the Gulf of Siam, but I don't believe it's significant or of interest to international companies.

My information is not up to date, other than desires by Westinghouse to build nuclear facilities in Thailand as recent as five years ago, but I don't think anything is happening on this issue now neither.

Sad to note: they are gunning down poets on the streets of Bangkok, because they dare to speak truth. More violence is expected to come against political activists promoting free speech and democracy.

I urge all, to boycott travel to this archaic land of lovely people who suffer inequality and injustice, until progressive change is brought about.
