For a very long time "Collegiality" has been the excuse for
the University not dealing with a large number of its ills in
any sort of a genuine way.

"Collegiality" is quite a disingenuous mockery of what a university
ought to be
and it represents a great betrayal of the public trust. The University of
Illinois is a public university and it is a Land Grant university and as
such has first of all a debt of responsibility to the people for whom it
exists. Despite the importance of rich patrons who
wish to buy themselves an ideology or buy themselves a renaming of some
edifice, the
University of Illinois belongs to the people, not to any one donor or
even a group of them.

Well, fuck whole bunch of collegiality.
And Civility? Well, Fuck you, too.

Collegiality is a poor substitute for real colleagues who challenge you.

And civility is a piss poor sort of substitute for the kind of discourse
that
examines all sides of a thing.

There are people in Urbana-Champaign that envision a pristine Caspar
Milquetoast world
that has been Bowdlerized like that of the movie "Demolition Man".

Let's be thankful for those who dare to boldly and cynically point out
the inconsistencies, the non-sequiturs, and the unmerited meretricious
that oft constitute if not characterize academia.
