to Final Environmental Review *

Urbana, IL - More than 20 local advocates for government action to address
climate change will participate in a protest vigil at the Champaign County
Veterans' Memorial on Monday at 5pm calling on President Obama to reject
the controversial Keystone XL pipeline following the release of the State
Department's Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement. The
Keystone XL pipeline will be a huge source of carbon pollution and clearly
fails the climate test set by President Obama.

The event is part of a national campaign led by CREDO, Rainforest Action
Network, the Sierra Club and 350.org, among a host of other
organizations, calling on the president to keep his commitment to
reduce carbon pollution and reject the pipeline. On Monday, there will be
more than 230 vigils in 47 states.

"Everyone agrees that increasing the exploitation of tar sands oil will
harm the climate," said Robert Naiman, Policy Director of Just Foreign
Policy and Urbana resident. "The only dispute is over how much approving
the proposed pipeline would contribute to that harm. President Obama has
repeatedly promised to do what he can to protect the climate by acting
under his own authority. Rejecting the Keystone pipeline is entirely within
his authority."

WHAT: Protest vigil urging President Obama to reject the Keystone XL
Pipeline following the release of the State Department's new environmental
assessment. Activists will hold candles, signs and chant against the
pipeline.

WHO: Local activists with CREDO, Rainforest Action Network, the Sierra
Club, Just Foreign Policy and 350.org

WHEN: 5pm

WHERE: SE corner of Broadway and Main, downtown Urbana

Keystone XL is a tar sands pipeline that would transport some of the
dirtiest crude oil on the planet from Alberta Canada, and across American
soil for export. The vigil in Urbana is part of a campaign to try and stop
the pipeline from ruining the climate and endangering communities along the
proposed pipeline route.
