																											Announcing Our Statewide Slate!

The Illinois Green Party formally announced its intention to run a full slate of candidates for all six statewide executive offices and US Senate today at a press conference in Springfield. It is critical that the voters of Illinois have a choice to vote for candidates with real policy solutions. We need candidates who will fix the budget without attacking the poor or cutting vital services, who will fully fund education and support teachers, who will protect pensions and retirees, who will grow the economy through the expansion of renewable energy, infrastructure, mass transit, and sustainable agriculture, and who will oppose hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and fossil fuel expansion as a short-term and short-sighted solution for our economic crisis.

Scott Summers heads the slate as the Green Party's candidate for Governor. Scott is a lawyer, MBA graduate of Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, and a former elected official as a trustee at McHenry County College. He is a lifelong Illinois resident, and he is passionate about improving communities and education throughout the state.

																												Put Us On The Ballot!

We need your help. We have from March 25th to June 22nd to collect 25,000 valid signatures from registered Illinois voters. Because of the punitive ballot-access laws in Illinois, it is necessary to collect far more signatures than the statutory total. The Illinois Green Party plans on collecting over 40,000 signatures for our statewide candidates in order to guarantee a place for them on November’s ballot.

Here are four things you can do.

																														1) Print the petition out. Sign it. Get 9 family and friends to sign it. If you have more than 9 family and friends, print out a few more sheets and have all of them sign. When they are completed (not necessarily notarized, please see the petition guide), contact David Sacks at dsacks83 at gmail.com with the subject line “Completed Petitions.”

																														2) Meet up with other Greens to petition at events. The ILGP and multiple petition coordinators have already printed large quantities of blank petition sheets, have clipboards and supplies, and will be out at events, farmer’s markets, train stops, and more collecting signatures. Whenever we have a specific coordinator, time, and place, we’ll be posting the event on the website and broadcasting it on our list-serve. Please check this space for regular updates on where to meet other Greens to petition for the current week.

																														3) Become a petition coordinator. If you’re willing to commit to petitioning for one hour per week or more, then we want to hear from you. We can help you with large quantities of petitions, clipboards, and other resources. We can put you in contact with other Greens working in your area. If you’re interested in becoming a coordinator, email David Sacks at dsacks83 at gmail.com with the subject line “Petition Coordinator.”

Please read our guide on how to petition here.

																														Download the petition here.

																														4) Donate! Petition drives cost money. 40,000 signatures equates to thousands of hours freely donated by our volunteers, and those volunteers deserve strong support from the Illinois Green Party. 100 people donating as little as $50 would fully fund our needs for the petition drive. It shouldn't cost $5,000 simply to participate in our statewide elections, but this is the political system we have, and a prime example of why we want to change it.
