There's been renewed buzz recently about U.S. policy towards Israeli
settlements in the West Bank. The Israeli government has recently made some
very aggressive announcements. The U.S. government and J Street have gotten
more rhetorically aggressive in response.

Last week, former U.S. Ambassador and former White House Middle East
Adviser Marc Ginsburg had a piece at Huffington Post calling for heightened
scrutiny of private tax-exempt donations from the U.S. to support Israeli
settlement activity in the West Bank. Ginsburg noted the major story about
this in the New York Times in July 2010.

Of course this is not the first time that people have thought about going
after this; some of us discussed it at the time of the NYT article. But
following the Ginsburg piece, some people approached Just Foreign Policy
and said, "Could you put up a petition at MoveOn about this? Maybe the
climate is different now."

"Why not?" we said. "Let's send it up the flagpole and see who salutes."
