Dear david,

47 years ago this month, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered in Memphis as he stood in solidarity with striking AFSCME sanitation workers. Dr. King was in Memphis because he understood the urgency of a national movement against economic inequality. Since his death, the gap between the 1% and the rest of us has only widened.

On April 8 supporters of the Robin Hood Tax will commemorate Dr. King by holding vigils at congressional offices across the country.

We will demand that Congress pass the Inclusive Prosperity Act. This Act, sponsored by Rep. Keith Ellison (D., MN) includes a small tax on Wall Street speculative trades that would raise up to $300 billion per year. It would take a big bite out of inequality while dampening the speculative frenzies that have destroyed the lives of millions of Americans.

The Labor Campaign for Single Payer supports the Robin Hood Tax because we believe that Wall Street must pay its fair share towards national healthcare and other essential social programs. We support it because it is directed at the same forces whose profits stand between the American and their healthcare. We support it because it will help to build the kind of movement we need to win healthcare for all.

Please join a vigil in your community and urge your union to participate.

A complete list of events together with downloadable leaflets is available here. Together we can prevail against Wall Street greed.

In Solidarity.

Mark Dudzic
