[Peace-discuss] Israeli occupation divestment resolution at United Church of Christ June 26

This June in Cleveland, the United Church of Christ is expected to hold a
historic boycott, divestment, and sanctions vote. The General Synod will
take place in Cleveland on June 26-30.

The proposed UCC resolution includes recommendations to:

-- divest from Caterpillar Inc., Motorola Solutions, Hewlett-Packard
Development Company LP or its successors, G4S, and Veolia Environnement
plus its subsidiaries

-- boycott settlement goods, such as SodaStream, Ahava, and Hadilklaim

-- request that Congress ensures that U.S. aid to Israel violates neither
the U.S. Foreign Assistance Act, which prohibits assistance to any country
that engages in a consistent pattern of human rights violations, nor the
U.S. Arms Export Control Act, which limits the use of U.S. weapons to
“internal security” or “legitimate self-defense”

I would guess that some folks from the Champaign-Urbana area will be going
as delegates.

So, this could be an opportunity for some local engagement with UCC folks
around the underlying issues in support of the resolution...
