I'm perfectly willing to believe that the moral character of the 1% should be largely called into question, rather than that of those who are consigned to being poor. But capitalism only encourages that, and indeed rewards bad character traits, such as greed for wealth and power. The only way to prevent their bad character from ruining society for the rest of us is to change society at a fundamental and structural level. That way they can only inflict their bad character on their families, and their families can issue them an ultimatum to shape up.
