From the Champaign County Young Democrats:

"WARNING: Joe Petry is claiming to be an independent. But, just last month he took "loyalty tests to the Republican Party" and told the local GOP that he will "represent the ideals of the Republican Party" if elected mayor. Petry said that Gov. Rauner's proposed $4 million in devastating cuts to Champaign's social services are "necessary" and he is going to "work together with" Gov. Rauner to implement them.

"Independent? Joe Petry is just another partisan republican.

"There is only one candidate that has refused to take loyalty oaths to any political party and promises to fight Gov. Rauner's plan to bankrupt Champaign: Mayor Don Gerard.”
