And Swanson’s right about Gore Vidal. I’ve advised students who want to know something about modern US history to read not only Chomsky, Alperovitz, et al., but Vidal’s "'Narratives of Empire" as well: "a heptalogy [ = seven novels in a series; cf. works of J. K.
