I would suggest, Karen M., that the pragmatic first step towards such a discussion would be the delineation of class and identity politics. That's the dilemma faced by "progressive" communities like ours around this country, especially those fortunate or unfortunate enough to operate within or on the margins of academia.

I am so glad you brought the idea of such an event to the Green Party! An event like this is much needed. I, Karen Medina, failed you. You asked for help from all of us to make the event balanced in many ways including interpretations and gender. I tossed you a few names but did not follow through and stay in touch with the unfolding of the plan.  I am not sure I would have helped much, but perhaps I might have thought of more people to approach.
Do I think there is an underlying reason the women had busy schedules or said no? Yes, I do... The issue is that we, women and men, are swamped with activities on issues that threaten our communities every day. our activities are hard to schedule around!Let's start over.
I want to start with a discussion of "what should an event about socialism look like? And who should be invited to speak? What format should it take? When and where should it take place?"
