Steve Early -  has been an organizer, lawyer, union representative, and
labor activist for the past forty-five years. He will talk about his new
book " Refinery Town: Big Oil, Big Money, and the Remaking of an American
City " - which chronicles the fifteen years of successful community
organizing in Richmond California that raised the local minimum wage,
defeated a casino development project, challenged home foreclosures and
evictions, and sought fair taxation of Big Oil and Big Soda. The book
features a dynamic cast of characters including  Gayle McLaughlin, the Green
party mayor who challenged Chevron and won.
