I did not request a response, to my email last week to our representatives requesting they support Net Neutrality.

This came today from Rodney Davis, he will not support Net Neutrality, obfuscating it in “wordspeak.” See below:

Tammy Duckworth responsded with confirmation that she “will support Net Neutrality."

Dear Ms. Aram,

Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns with net neutrality and the recent vote taken by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). I appreciate hearing from constituents in my district and the time you took to share your thoughts.

As your Member of Congress, I support a free and open internet. Network neutrality is generally the principle that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and governments should treat all data on the internet equally and not discriminate based on content. In 2015, under the Obama Administration, the FCC approved a proposal to reclassify the internet as a public utility, which ultimately led to the FCC regulating the internet under its Title II authority and increasing government control of the internet. Unfortunately, Title II authority is an outdated framework established in the 1930s that equates to more government control and manipulation over the internet rather than a free market system, which gives power and choice to the consumer.

On December 14, 2017, the FCC voted to reverse the 2015 reclassification, restoring the same framework that governed the internet in 2015. I understand your concerns with the internet being free and open and I recognize the worry accompanying this change. This rollback of regulations were also accompanied with new rules that require internet companies to publicly disclose if they are engaging in blocking, throttling, or paid prioritization of websites or content.

I believe it is time for Congress to take legislative action against blocking and throttling in order to protect consumers and settle this debate with an updated law that applies to 2018 and beyond, rather than an outdated, 1930s framework. As Congress works to address this issue, please be assured I will continue to keep your support in mind.

Again, thank you for contacting me regarding this important issue. Please let me know if my office can be of assistance to you in the future. In addition, if you would like to stay informed on what is happening in Washington, DC and around the 13th District, I encourage you to sign up to receive my e-newsletter by visiting https://rodneydavis.house.gov/contact/newsletter. It is truly an honor to represent you.

Sincerely,
[(signed)]
