The Piketty translator and observer of French politics, Art Goldhammer, was recently interviewed by Doug Henwood on these matters. He wasn't so dismissive of the Socialist candidate as Johnstone, FWIW. Johnstone's critique of the Universal Basic Income is noteworthy in this context. In any event, Goldhammer thinks that there is no chance that Le Pen will win a runoff against any of her possible opponents.
