In the aftermath of the recent terror attacks on New York and 
Washington there has been a great deal of discussion about the 
appropriate U.S. and international response to the attacks and the 
nature and dynamics of the international coalition that is being 
assembled to combat terrorism.  In view of the complexity of the 
issues involved, the Program in South Asian and Middle Eastern 
Studies in collaboration with Teachers for Peace and Justice have 
organized this and other events to provide more in-depth discussion 
of the issues and areas involved (their cultures, politics, and 
religions), the concerns of the Arab, Muslim and South Asian 
communities in the U.S., and the possible long-term implications of 
the U.S. and international response on long-standing issues such as 
the Arab-Israeli conflict, India-Pakistan relations, U.S. engagement 
in the international scene and in the Middle East and South Asia in 
particular.
