Shaheen Shorish came to the U.S. from Afghanistan following the Soviet
Union's attack on her country. In both the U.S. and in Afghanistan, Ms.
Shorish and her family have taken on politically active roles in 
challenging the oppression of Taliban rule, and in working for the
restoration of Afghani rights.
