Just a reminder about the Non-violent Activism series.  The second forum is
tonight at Channing Murray.  More info below.

Living Your Principles:  Nonviolent Activism, Civil Disobedience and
Conscientious Objection.  
This six week public forum will be held at the Channing-Murray Foundation,
1209 W. Oregon, Urbana at 7:30 p.m. on successive Thursdays from 1/31/02 to
3/7/02.  The first three Thursdays will  feature segments from the PBS
series, A Force More Powerful followed by discussion.  
***1/31/02 Films: Nashville: African-American sit-ins and boycott; South
Africa: boycott against apartheid.  Facilitators for the discussion will be
Dawn Blackman and Imani Bazzell. 
***2/7/02.  Films: Denmark: Nonviolent resistance to Hitler; Chile:
Overthrow of Pinochet.
***2/14/02.  Films: India: Gandhi vs the British; Poland: Walesa vs the
Communists.

The last three Thursdays will feature panel discussions on topics listed
below:
***2/.21/02.  Tactics of nonviolent activism.  Panel to include Mary Lee
Sargent, Danielle Chynoweth, Cameron Satterthwaite, Susan Parenti, Meridith
Kruse and Peter Miller.
***2/28/02.  Historical review of the legal recognition of the rights of
conscientious objection.  Panel to include Bobbi Trist, Merlin Taber and
others.  Also a showing of a film The Good War and Those Who Refused to
Fight It on COs during World War II.
***3/7/02.  Practical info on becoming a conscientious objector.  Panel to
include Barry Miller, Kelly Maynard and others.
