The MLK Scholarship event this Sunday is produced in conjunction with
the UI Provost's office. It features the community choir-- an
interracial gospel choir that assembles every year in November to
prepare for this program. It is directed by Todd Taylor with
assistance by choir leaders various churches in the traditionally
African American north end community. It is amazing. We ROCK!

But perhaps most interesting is the presence on campus of Robert
Moses (Jan 25 and 26 ). Moses was a founding member of SNCC. After
the peaceful coalition of SNCC foundered, he turned his formidable
mind to teaching math to urban children ( e.g., teaching negative
numbers using concrete metaphors of the subway systems) . He is
brilliant and his work is directly apropos to the problems facing the
Urbana/Champaign schools, who have failed to educate afro- am
children.
