JOB OPENING: Community Organizer

The Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice (ICWJ) of Champaign
County is seeking a part time organizer. ICWJ draws on the moral 
teachings of the world religions in order to educate, organize and 
mobilize the religious community on issues and campaigns that will 
improve wages, benefits, and working conditions for workers, 
especially low-wage workers.

General responsibilities of staff Organizer:
* Maintain and distribute lists of active people in ICWJ
* Recruit more individuals and organizations to ICWJ
* Help prepare for meetings
* Help with ICWJ campaigns

Qualifications:
* Ability to work independently with minimal guidance
* Some experience with activism and organizing
* Individuals with knowledge of major local religious faiths and/or 
local labor issues are strongly encouraged to apply

Hours:
* Averages 10 hours per week

Duration of Employment:
* Most of Spring 2002 academic semester with possibility for extension

Compensation:
* $9 per hour, no benefits.

Start date:
February 11, 2002 (this is negotiable)
