and Al.

Thursday, July 25, 5:30 PM Public i meeting, IMC.

5. Facilitation at future meetings. A sign-up sheet went around.

6. Finance committee. The idea was finalized. Committee will be
Vicki, Mike and Raia.

7. September 11th anniversary plans.
Al passed out a handout with our brainstorming ideas.

Vicki sent a report on known events. The Baker Board will do a Walk
for Peace at several locations including portable labyrinths, a
metaphoric pilgrimage. Anti-war signs are not appropriate. They will
also do a community calendar. There will be a brown bag lunch at
Parkland College, Room D-105, "How 9/11 Changed Our Lives" with
Imani Bizzell and Mary Lee Seargent.

We need to address the likely apolitical nature of UIUC events.

People seemed to like the theme "Another World Is Possible" (from
World Social Forum). We need to make teaching part of all events.

We should have 3 working groups: for direct action, speaker events,
and publicity/media/ outreach.

Direct Action idea: March to the FBI office on September 11th. This
alerts people to the fact that there is such an office in C/U. Can
easily target repression of civil liberties as well as war plans.
Need to be flexible and respond to current events, possibly new war
with Iraq. Street theater also goes under this category.

Speaker/teach-in ideas: Speaker from September 11th Families for
Peaceful Tomorrows, possibly in early September if available. They
have a video from their trip to Afghanistan where they met with
families of bombing victims. They may have photos for an exhibit.
Also ask Ahmed Bensouda to speak. Need to include Art and Revolution.
Try to get events at both the university campus and in community, or
do one event just off campus in a community venue.

Publicity/media campaign/outreach ideas: Includes possibly editing
Public i for August and possible AWARE TV program on WILL. Need
to do table on Quad Day, August 27th.

8. Working groups will meet 6:30 - 7 PM after each AWARE meeting.
First meetings were tonight.
