Keith Knight - cartoonist, rapper, media activist, writer, filmmaker, and
award-winning creator of the nationally self-syndicated comic strip, the "K
Chronicles" - will be in-Residence at Unit One/Allen Hall 11/10-11/15 and will
be giving talks, conducting workshops, and leading discussions every evening.
His opening program is Sunday 11/10 at 8pm in the south rec room of Allen Hall,
1005 W. Gregory, Urbana. All programs are open to the public. A full schedule
is below.

Keith Knight is a cartoonist, rapper, media activist, writer, filmmaker, and
award-winning creator of the nationally self- syndicated comic strip, the "K
Chronicles." The weekly strip is a hilarious and poignant combination of urban
politics and race, love of family, and offbeat humor, and has garnered praise
from the likes of Garry Trudeau and Maya Angelou. Knight's humorous and
inspirational multi-media presentations on underground cartooning, race, media
literacy, and activism have been lauded at educational institutions nationwide.
Knight has released a book of his comic strip collection Fear of a Black Marker
and is currently developing an animated series for Nickelodeon.

7:00pm - Hardcore Means More Than 4 Letter Words: social and political activism
through hip-hop & comix (including some of the best examples of politically
conscious hip-hop and comix)

Tuesday, November 12
7:00pm - DIY or die: the importance and power of do it yourself and
independent/non-corporate media  - includes a screening of Michael Dean's film
"DIY or die”
9:00pm - Fear of a Black Marker: the comix deemed too shocking for readers to
see

Wednesday, November 13
7:00pm - Race, Representation, and Youth: racial stereotypes in media
9:00pm - screening of Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing”

Thursday, November 14
5:00pm – dinner with Keith – in the Allen private dining room
8:00pm - Be a Cartoonist, or Just Look Like One: a cartooning workshop

All programs take place in the South Rec Room of Allen Hall, 1005 W. Gregory,
Urbana (unless noted) and are open to the public. Call 333-8351 for more
