supported the dictator, but no mention that he was trained in the US at the
School of the Americas.

To Ambassador Hamilton:
We appreciate the statement you made recently regarding the attempt by
former dictator Rios Montt to once again try to run for the presidency of
Guatemala. Please continue to support the innocent people that would be
once again placed at risk by the governing of Guatemala by the man
responsible for genocide during the years of the worst repression against
the Guatemalan people. Thank you for speaking up to say that Montt's
possible run would make it difficult for the United States to have normal
relations with the Guatemalan government especially if Montt would succeed
in taking office against the constitution of the country.
We also speak to you as parents and members of a larger community here in
Urbana, Illinois. We support and communicate with our daughter in Guatemala
as she reports back to us regarding the situation in Guatemala and the
recording of past human rights violations. We look forward to your
continued support and would appreciate your efforts to press for
international comment regarding the condemnation of the court's
unconstitutional decision to allow this former dictator to attempt to run
for office.
Thank you for your efforts on behalf of the citizens of Guatemala and the
continued informing of the people of the United States regarding this
important issue.
Sincerely,
Jan and Durl Kruse
