Action

In Amman, Jordan a young boy and his mother await visas to enter the United=
States for the boy=92s medical care. A background check to clear the child=
and his mother is being conducted. Mustafa=92s hand was partially amputat=
ed and shrapnel lodged precariously near his spine during a US bombing of h=
is village in southern Iraq, January, 1999. Medical care, room and board a=
nd guidance are guaranteed by a group of physicians in Los Angeles. We are=
urging you to contact your Congress people to request their participation =
in seeking expedition of this visa clearance. The Mother of Mustafa is Aqb=
al Thyad. The child is Mustafa Akbal Thyad.

Letters of support to expedite visa clearance can be sent by email to: Alle=
n Kepchar, Head of Non-Immigrant Visa Section at: Amman-NIV at state.gov

Cole Miller, founder of www.nomorevictims.org, and photographer, Alan Pogue=
, are in Amman, Jordan. They are with the boy, Mustafa, and his Mother, who=
=92s

picture is on our webpage. Mustafa was injured in the same bombing as Israa=
, the little girl whose picture is also on this page.

Many others have spent thousands of dollars attempting to get both Israa an=
d Mustafa to the United States for medical care. They both have shrapnel lo=
dged in their bodies that Iraqi medical teams cannot remove. Physicians in =
the United States are prepared to treat them if we can get the Visa=92s to =
bring them here.

Cole and Alan are staying in Amman with Mustafa and his Mother assisting th=
em with the process of getting medical visas. This humanitarian effort is

becoming very expensive. Voice4Change has offered our 501c-3 status to rais=
e funds to sustain this effort. We are asking for your support to fund this=
 effort.

For the next few weeks, every donation sent to us through Paypal, and all c=
hecks to SEE/Voice4change with No More Victims in the memo line will go to =
this heroic humanitarian effort.

OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

President George W. Bush, Vice President Richard B. Cheney, Secretary of De=

SEPTEMBER 11th FAMILIES FOR PEACEFUL TOMORROWS STATEMENT ON THE IRAQ WAR

"The past is prophetic in that it asserts that wars are poor chisels for ca=
rving out peaceful tomorrows. One day we must come to see that peace is not=
merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that=
goal. We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means. How much longer=
must we play at deadly war games before we heed the plaintive pleas of the=
unnumbered dead and maimed of past wars?"

--Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows condemns unconditionally the=
illegal, immoral, and unjustified US-led military action in Iraq. As famil=
y members of September 11th victims, we know how it feels to experience "sh=
ock and awe," and we do not want other innocent families to suffer the trau=
ma and grief that we have endured. While we also condemn the brutality of S=
addam Hussein's regime, it does not justify the brutality, death and destru=
ction being visited upon Iraq and its citizens by our own government.

The Lords of Vengeance
By William Rivers Pitt
t r u t h o u t | Perspective

Monday 24 March 2003

We have become, with a sudden jolt, a divided nation in this time of war. =
Demands that Americans leave aside protests, accusations and anger in order=
to support our military work in Iraq have gone unheeded by great segments =
of the population. Millions of people have poured into the streets of virt=
ually every city in the country to demand that the bombing be stopped, and =
that the troops be brought safely home. Those protests have been met by eq=
ually enraged citizens who see these protests as an aid to terrorists and a=
n act of treason. Americans scream obscenities at Americans across lines c=
reated by armored police.

This will only get worse, as both groups are hardened in their opinions and=
beliefs. In the final analysis, questions of who is right and who is wron=
g fall by the wayside, as both sides stand secure in their rectitude. In s=
uch a polarized situation, right and wrong will be determined between these=
 groups when one side quits.

A Vietnam-era Dad Talks to His Protesting Son

Bernard Weiner
Co-Editor, The Crisis Papers
March 24, 2003

Dear Mark:

First, I want to say how proud I am of your -- and much of your generation'=
s -- commitment to the values we both hold dear: fair play, civility, socia=
l justice, peaceful resolution of conflict. It's not easy being a young adu=
lt in this current crazy world, and I admire the way you're going about lea=
rning how to cope with its vagaries, hypocrisies and criminalities.

As you know well, Mom and I are always nervous about your safety; you and I=
may not always agree on tactics and strategy in that regard in the growing=
anti-war/pro-democracy movement, but I'm glad you're willing to hear me ou=
t. So, here goes:

Calendar of Demonstrations for Peace

Many peace activists feel isolated because peace activities are not reporte=
d in mainstream media. In one effort to help to correct this, the WRL has s=
et up this page to post events from around the country that have happened, =
will happen, or are happening on a continuous basis. If you know of such an=
event, please submit the form at the bottom of this page, or call (212-228=
-0450), fax (212-228-6193), e-mail (nowar at warresisters.org) us.

Note, these events are listed as a public service and are not necessarily e=
ndorsed by the War Resisters League.
