Please forward:

It’s hard to believe but the annual Peace Bazaar is only a couple days away!
It will be held Saturday, December 4th at Community United Church of Christ
(corner of 6th and Daniel) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to
come shopping at this fun event!

The Peace Bazaar is an annual (34th year!) alternative gift fair where we
sell gifts (new and recycled), UNICEF cards and calendars, works by local
artists, household furnishings, books, plants, toys, some furniture,
fresh-baked goods, gifts to local restaurants and businesses, and much more!
We have an incredible selection this year – come check it out.

This year we will also have several alternative vendors joining the Peace
Bazaar including Ten Thousand Villages, Fair Trade Aribica Coffee from
Chiapas, Mexico, Heartland Pathways (David Monk’s prairie photographs), El
Centro por Los Trabajadores, Heifer Project International, and A.W.A.R.E.
(Anti-War, Anti-Racism Effort).

The sale starts at 9 a.m. Come early for the best selection. Half-price
sale starts at 1 p.m.

Free parking is available in the church lot behind the building in both
“rental” and “church” spots. There is also free parking in the parking
garages immediately north of the church on John Street and west of the
church on 5th Street. Community United is the yellow brick church at 6th
and Daniel in Champaign.

Funds raised from this event go to groups promoting peace and social
justice. This year's local recipients include Community Day Care, El Centro
por Los Trabajodores, Frances Nelson Health Care Center, St. Jude Catholic
Worker House, and the Victim Offender Reconciliation Project. National and
international recipients include African Great Lakes Initiative, Calavera
Project (El Salvador) of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Champaign, Christian
Peacemaker Teams, Oxfam America (specifically for Sudan and Chad), and
Project Lakota (Pine Ridge Reservation, S. Dakota).

The 34th annual Peace Bazaar is co-sponsored by the Urbana-Champaign Friends
Meeting (Quakers), Community United Church of Christ, First Mennonite Church
Peace Institute, and McKinley Presbyterian Student Foundation.
