I have been out of town, or would have posted this sooner:

Today, Tuesday April 5, the UIUC chapter of Amnesty International is presenting
a teach-in about human rights abuses in Guatamala, due to CIA involvement in
the country since 1954. The event is at 8pm at the University YMCA (1001 S.
Wright St. in Champaign).

This teach-in is necessary background you should know if you would like to
attend next week's symposium on the aftermath of the CIA-backed coup in
Guatemala. The symposium is historic and amazing and is sponsored by the UIUC
department of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. More details about the
symposium are on the UIUC website.

More details about the Amnesty teach-in: call Danielle at 337-1500 or email
danielle at universityymca.org.

Amnesty International is a program of the University YMCA. You can read more
about Amnesty International's April events at www.universityymca.org. The Y
also has two other human rights-related programs: Libertas, a group raising
awareness about human trafficking; and United Students Against Sweatshops,
which will be hosting a march to Swanlund to deliver demands to the University
this Wednesday. They are small but growing strong, and have lots of events
coming up in the next few weeks.
