[Peace] Monday celebration of Urbana City Council -- new and retiring

Hi, all.

 

You're all invited to the Urbana City Council meeting (400 S. Vine St. in Urbana) Monday, May 2 at 7:30pm and then to a party afterwards at Crane Alley to celebrate and give thanks!!!!

 

Here's what I'm going to celebrate and am thankful for:

 

* the swearing in of the new mayor, Laurel Prussing

 

* alderwomen Esther Patt and Ruth Wyman and alderman Jim Hayes for their years of dedicated service

 

* the contributions of former alderwoman Laura Huth

 

* the courage and vision of returning alderwoman Danielle Chynoweth, who will be the senior council member and only returning *elected* member

 

* the new progressive council members Brandon Bowersox, Charlie Smyth, Dennis Roberts and Robert Lewis.

 

* the work of the council in the last four years that has resulted in a domestic partner registry for area residents, family medical and bereavement leave for unmarried city employees in committed domestic partner relationships, the passage of an anti-war resolution, the defeat of an at-large referendum, the increased participation of residents in their government.

 

What are your reasons for celebrating?  Let the council know. Thank them and welcome the new folks.  Stay involved!
