Dear AWARE,

You have been instrumental in getting Democracy Now on UPTV and greatly
expanding the usage of local public access TV. Thank you. We are now
pushing for a separate, stand-alone community-run station. We need to
hear from you (and your family and friends)! See below.

Help Shape the Future of Local Public Access Television

Monday, August 29th at 4 PM
Urbana City Council Chambers, 400 S. Vine St.

The Public Access Committee of the C-U Telecommunications Commission is
investigating the possibility of creating a *separate* non-profit,
community run television channel to air programs produced and chosen by
the community.

Currently Urbana Public Television (UPTV Channel 6) provides equipment,
training, and some public access program time. Adding a separate channel
would increase that access for you and your organization.

But we can't do it without you. We need your thoughts and ideas!

3 things you can do to help:

1) JOIN US! . . . this Monday at 4pm in Urbana City Council Chambers to
hear more about the possibilities for greater local public access and
participate in discussion.

2) TAKE THE SURVEY! . . . We need to hear what you and your organization
would like to see. Survey results will be shared with the CU
Telecommunications Commission as we build the movement for greater public
access.

3) MARK YOUR CALENDARS! . . . Sue Buske will be speaking at our
September 17th public access forum at 2 PM in Champaign Council Chambers.
Sue Buske is the smartest mind in the field of Public Access Television.
She will be strategizing with our community on how to increase public
access as we approach the time for renegotiating our franchise agreement
with the local cable provider.
