Amnesty International’s new country specialist for Sudan (a C-U resident) is
organizing a local action network in coordination with CERRV (The
Coordinated Effort for the Reporting of Rights Violations).

Amnesty International (AI) is a worldwide movement of people who campaign
for internationally recognized human rights. AI’s vision is of a world in
which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.

In pursuit of this vision, AI’s mission is to undertake research and action
focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and
mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from
discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights.

If you are interested in learning how to take action to address the crises
in the Sudan, please join us. We are especially looking for local community
members with skills in grassroots activism/mobilization, public
relations/media, and research.

Areas of focus on the Sudan will be: Human Rights abuses by the government
and paramilitary forces, violence against women, children’s issues, civil
and political rights, education, and refugee affairs. We will act primarily
by raising awareness in various community and regional media outlets,
directly lobbying of US and foreign government officials, coordinating
efforts with regional action networks, and developing strategies to meet the
goals set forth by AI’s East Africa office.
