ILLINI UNION BOARD PRESENTS "CABARET"

Powerful World War II musical to be produced at Foellinger
Auditorium-November 11th, 12th, & 13th.

Urbana, IL - The Illini Union Board (IUB) will be producing three
performances of "Cabaret" November 11th and November 12th at 7:30pm
and November 13th at 2:00pm at Foellinger Auditorium. Tickets will
go on sale on October 10th at the Illini Union Ticket Central and
Assembly Hall box office. Prices range from $10-12 with group rates
available.

"Cabaret" set in the tumultuous city of Berlin just before Hitler's
rise to power, is based on Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories and
John Van Druten's I Am a Camera. The main action of the play revolves
around a cabaret performer, Sally Bowles, and the brief affair she
has with an American writer who takes her in after she is kicked out
of the Kit Kat Club where she performs. Although Sally and Clifford
soon find themselves deeply in love, there is too much chaos in the
world around them. Since its debut "Cabaret" has consistently been
one of the most popular musicals of all time. This completely
student organized production features a 21-member acting ensemble
consisting entirely of University of Illinois students. The
production also features a 19-piece orchestra.

Among the music featured in the show are the songs "Cabaret," "Two
Ladies," "Willkommen," and "Don't tell Mama." The music and lyrics
are by Joe Masteroff, John Kander and Fred Ebb. The IUB version will
be produced by Adam Cobb and directed by Jeff Dare.

The Illini Union Board was established in 1942, to provide cultural,
educational, social, and recreational programs for the University and
its surrounding communities. It consists of 15 student and eight
non-student members responsible for one of the largest programming
organizations on campus.

"Cabaret" is presented through special arrangements with all
authorized performance materials are supplied by Music Theater
International, 421 W, 54th Street, new York, NY 10019.
