Dear friends,
Can you help us host the wonderful volunteers who will help build your new
community radio station in Mid November?
>From November 10-14, hundreds of people will converge on Urbana to help us
"raise the roof" on our community's new low power FM station -- WRFU Radio
Free Urbana, 104.5FM. The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center
(IMC), in collaboration with Prometheus Radio Project, a national
grassroots radio organization, will host a Radio Station Barnraising
during the weekend of November 11-13, 2005 -- the first ever in the
Midwest! And we need your help to house Barnraising participants who are
driving, flying, hitching, training and busing to the area. If you have
an extra couch, a guest bedroom, an unused futon, or even a spare bit of
floor space you're willing to share, please respond. We're especially
interested in people who live within a mile of downtown Urbana.
The Barnraising will feature the construction of the entire station with
the help of hundreds of volunteers from around the globe; and on November
13th we'll have a new community radio station on the air. Radio Free
Urbana will be broadcasting out of the new IMC Community Media and Arts
Center and will reach most residents in Champaign and Urbana. The program
schedule will feature an eclectic mix of talk, music, and radio drama
including shows on food commentary, Chicano issues, "drum n bass", and
sound art (to name just a few). Members of the community will run these
programs, and everyone is invited to put in a show request, as well as
attend the Barnraising in November. For more information, check out the
Prometheus Radio Project site at http://prometheusradio.org/urbana/.
If you are willing to house some of our out of town guests during the
Barnraising, please fill out the housing volunteer form located at:

or contact me directly at faith at ucimc.org with any questions you might
have about housing or anything else related to the Barnraising!
Let me know & thanks for your help,
