Minutes of 10/15/05 AWARE Meeting

1.	News of the Week – cge

2.	Introductions

3.	New Ideas, Working Groups, Past Weeks Events, or Upcoming Events
a.	Barnraising at post office Nov. 11 – 13 will be a collaboration of
IMC and Prometheus Radio Project volunteers from around the country who
will construct the WRFU studio and antenna and set up access points for
the Community Wireless Network. The contact is
Lynsee at illinoisalumni.org. They need all kinds of help. If you are
receiving these minutes you have received an appeal from Danielle
Chynoweth (sent to multiple IMC listservs, uc progressives, as well as
Peace) asking for volunteers Oct.19 thru Nov. 9 to provide support to
construction workers.
b.	There has been a lone man keeping a vigil with a sign “Impeach
Bush,” and “End the war” after church services at the Assembly of God
on Race at Windsor. Randall proposes that the 3rd Sunday of the month
beginning in November there be a church focused assembly at noon
instead of a demonstration at Neil and Main. This proposal was
accepted as the basis for sending around a sign up sheet for a working
group to further these plans. There was a lot of interest. One person
said she would not be comfortable speaking to churches and this was not
critical for consensus for a working group.
c.	Ricky Baldwin and Annette ? will be planning locations to gather
signatures for a statement (on a 8-1/2 x 11 papers) that could be
reproduced into a large sign or turned into government like a
petition. The statement reads: “We, the undersigned, oppose the
ongoing war in Iraq and hereby call for an immediate withdrawal of all
US troops stationed in Iraq.”
d.	There were a supply of half pages which were AWARE identified
counter recruitment pieces. Noone attending knew who had produced
them. (They were found sitting on top of the public use computer on
October 8.) Durl will take them for the farmers market.
e.	Dave Greene will be will continue the scheduling for Farmer’s Market
and Durl Kruse will be applying to bring the AWARE to the Mall for
December. AWARE will also have a card table display at the Dec. 3rd
Peace Bazaar at the UCC church.
f.	Main Event Oct. 15. Ricky Baldwin. Good outreach by mere thirty
demonstrators . Could have used more leaflets to pass out. Third
Saturday 6 to 8 p.m. will be suspended in November—too dark. There
will be Main Events on Nov. 5 and Dec. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m.
g.	Aware Presents will meet with Interfaith Alliance to see about
alternate locations but they have secured the UFL for a program on
Wed.,Nov.16, 7p.m.with three Iraq eye witnesses from recent travel:
Bushra Al-Heeti, Peggy Gish, and the son of the imam Tahla. The
working group is working on newspaper and radio publicity.
h.	Jamie Storms is moving ahead with getting Anthony Shadid author of
Night Draws Near interviewed on commercial radio stations and she
together with Belden Fields is formulating questions for an e-mail
interview that may be published in the upcoming issue of Public i.
i.	Durl Kruse reported that Piatt County has requested an eloquent
speaker on Iraq for a Veterans Day event in Monticello. Meg Miner and
Paul King are known to do this and well.
j.	Durl Kruse reported that the counter recruitment working group has a
draft prepared for a scholarship for a Parkland student. The
amount-$250-has already been approved by us.
k.	Bob Illyes reported that the Patrick Thompson defense fund has $1000.
l.	Ricky Baldwin reported on Citizen Police Review Board Task Force.
What are the upcoming calendar items for CPRB?
