Dear Friends and comrades,

t After the Senate's overwhelming vote to support the McCain
Amendment banning torture by US troops, the issue is now before a
House-Senate conference committee. While Tim Johnson is not on that
committee, there is a campaign to ask all Republicans to talk to
their fellow legislators who are on the committee to support the
McCain Amendment WITHOUT MODIFICATION. There is a fear that some
Republicans will try to gut it before it passes. The vote in the
Senate was quite amazing Please call Tim Johnson and ask him urge his
fellow Republicans to support the Amendment without any modification--
just as McCain proposed it and as it passed the Senate so
overwhelmingly. You can reach Johnson's Washington's office (please
call there asap as time is of the essence) through the House
switchboard 202-224-3121.
Thanks.
