RE: Southbound relief group
OK, here's the deal. Wendy Edwards is planning to leave this
Friday morning (tomorrow) and return this Sunday. It is a
quick trip. She is headed to Mauriceville, Texas to join up
with a group of 7 cu-relief people who left early this
morning (Thursday). Wendy will be taking photographs to
document their work and the situation in Mauriceville.
The rest of the group will be staying and working till
Tuesday. The group is joining the minister of Grace Community
Church who is already down there and coordinating with
several of the communities hit by the hurricanes.
Mauriceville is one community not yet getting much attention.
And, word is that it really helps to have people who care
about the people they are helping. The paid workers are
great, but it is their job to be there. It means alot to have
someone who is there because they want to be there, because
they see a neighbor in trouble and want to walk beside them
for awhile.
So, Wendy needs a sidekick who can help drive. It is a short
trip, and quite an adventure.
There is no electricity. Workers are sleeping in tents,
bathing alfresco (take a swimsuit to bathe in), and supplied
with food. The work group was told they might be just handing
out MREs, water, and ice. Or they might be doing some hard
physical work (there was a chain saw in the equipment that
went down this morning). Or the workers might asked to just
be there to listen to some people who are going through an
awful lot of changes.
Even if you don't know what MREs are, but are up for an
adventure and want to help your neighbors, then you can join
Wendy this weekend, or you can join a future work trip with
CU-Relief ( http://www.cu-relief.org ). It will be a weekend
you'll never forget.

to have someone going down to photograph/document the
destruction and relief efforts. I'm looking into unlimited
mileage rental cars and hoping to stay with the relief
group. Anyhow, if I can arrange the logistics, would anyone
else like to ride along? An over-25 driver would be
especially nice.
