CU's NEW BIKE CO-OP needs you!
The NEW BIKE CO-OP will offer a place to work on bikes, offer & take
bike repair classes, and provide a hub for cycling advocacy & community.
The NEW BIKE CO-OP will be located at the IMC, a Community Media and
Arts Center which has bought the post office building in downtown
Urbana - a short bike ride from campus and on every bus line through
Urbana.
Help raise the roof at the:
"BIKE CO-OP RAISING"
THIS SUNDAY, September 3rd from 2-6 PM.
at the IMC, in the post office building at Broadway & Elm in Urbana.
Drop on by! Bring your old bikes, tools to lend/give, and sign up to
become a member.
The FIRST BIKE BASICS CLASS is:
Sunday, September 10th at 2 PM.
Sign up by mailing: thebikeproject at gmail.com.
Free for members.
We are gathering MEMBERSHIPS and need 50+ to begin. We are also
seeking FOUNDING FUNDERS who can help get this off the ground by
giving $100-200. We need TOOLS & BIKES too - folks can drop them at
the Bike Coop Raising. And SKILLS - if you are bike-smart, spread it
around!
MEMBERSHIP is $50 per year or $25 per year for students/low income.
It is less than a single tune up! Send your check to:
The Bike Project
202 S. Broadway, #24
Urbana, IL 61801
Membership gets you:
--> access: workspace with shared tools
--> free classes: to the regular Bike Basics class, taught by local
bike experts
--> office hours with skilled people
--> discounted materials as available.
--> teaching space: want to make money with you bike smarts while you
help
others? Offer classes in the space and do a 50/50 split with
the co-op.
--> repair and sell space: let's get more working used bikes around CU.
Use the space to fix up old bikes and sell them with a split
with the co-op.
