The nascent Jobs With Justice Organizing Committee
(organizers of the last picket at the Tatman's hotel
site on Kirby with the Building Trades unions)
are planning another community picket at the
construction site.

The tentative date and time are
Friday March 3
8-9 AM
(a.k.a. the local "rush minute")
Please mark your calendars!

We need a big showing to send a message to Paul
Tatman, President of the Urbana Business Association
and a major developer in the area, that we expect him
to negotiate in good faith with local unions toward
reaching a fair resolution that is in the best
interests of all, management, labor and the community
as a whole.

The Tatman Hilton hotel site is one of the biggest
non-union construction projects in the area in recent
years and is being done with non-union and out-of-town
labor. This is a smaller, local version of the race
to the bottom we see internationally, which pits one
community against another in a competition for who can
provide the cheapest labor with the most public aid to
business (along with the least restrictive labor and
environmental laws, which are not at issue locally).

As a community we can and must stand against this
trend in our own backyard as well as in the
international arena.
