 New Ideas
-Discussion about the Patrick Thompson Trial that was on Wednesday July 5, 2006. Mr. Thompson was convicted of sexual assault based on testimony from the plaintiff and without hard evidence. The first trial addressing this case when Mr. Thompson defended himself resulted in a hung jury The investigating police officer did not collect evidence while at the scene and the witnesses for the accuser were white while those for Mr. Thompson were black. Questions arose about the character of the accuser but it was agreed that the woman’s name shouldn’t be defamed or published for that matter because it was an invasion of privacy in a sensistive issue. There was only one black man on the jury and he was decidedly indecisive about the verdict.
