Pending a real set of minutes, here's a summary of upcoming events:
Mon 6/26 1:30PM sharp! Urbana courthouse A (top floor, east side)
Beginning of court proceedings for Patrick Thompson's case.
Having people attend these to keep the court aware that the public
are interested will be valuable. The more who show up, the better.
Be aware of some new (unwritten?) rules:
- Courtroom doors *lock* at the specified time --
no one can enter late. So if you're coming, arrive before 1:30.
- "Revealing" clothes aren't acceptable -- no shorts, halter tops, ...
(Dressing well is a good idea. Randall will wear a suit!)
- No cell phones. If you carry one, keep it hidden and
ensure that it doesn't ring lest it be confiscated.
- No recording nor photography (this rule probably isn't new).
There will not be any protests outside the courthouse, as they
might be seen as trying to prejudice the jury, for example.
Tue 6/27 7:00PM Mennonite Church, NW corner of Springfield & Lincoln
Meeting of D.O.V.E. (Dedicated Ongoing Vineyard Engagement)
to plan further church engagements, and decide how to deal with
Annette's situation.
Sat 7/1 2:00-4:00PM Main & Neil, Champaign
Main Event. (Flyers include news of the advisory referendum,
and an invitation to march with AWARE in the 4th of July parade.)
Tue 7/4 1PM Fourth of July Parade
Float will carry the "Impeach Bush/Cheney / US Out of Iraq"
advisory-referendum sample-ballot billboard, a banner,
"Defending the Constitution Against the White House", ...
Not sure yet which slot AWARE's float will be in, but likely
(as in past years) starting somewhere near Lincoln and Nevada.
Fri 7/7 8:00PM IMC in Urbana
"The Hardest Question Ever", touring show by a Pittsburgh puppet group,
about questions of justice, prisons and violence -- see:
http://realcostofprisons.org/blog/archives/2006/06/touring_show_th.html
Sat 7/15 8PM in front of Urbana courthouse
Vigil to remember the five recent deaths in Champaign County jails.
