Bhavia Wagner will present a slide show, Journey to
Cambodia, on Sunday, November 26 at 1 PM at
Urbana-Champaign Friends Meetinghouse, 1904 E. Main,
Urbana. The presentation will explore Cambodia’s
history, culture, and current issues. Crafts made by
land mine survivors and widows will be available for
purchase. The public is invited to attend.

Visit the ancient temples at Angkor Wat. Meet the
Cambodian people and learn how they are overcoming
their difficulties, such as using non-violent direct
action to protect their forests. Current issues
include the trial of the Khmer Rouge scheduled for
2007 and the legacy of land mines. How can we respond
to the problems in Cambodia?

Called to Cambodia--Bhavia Wagner, a member of Eugene
Friends Meeting, has been working to help Cambodia
since her first visit in 1991. She has led four
educational study tours and has helped land mine
survivors market their crafts. She is the author of
Soul Survivors: Stories of Women and Children in
Cambodia. In 2003 Bhavia started a non-profit
organization called Friendship with Cambodia to
provide humanitarian assistance.

Cambodia is still recovering from 30 years of violence
including U.S. bombing, genocide, and civil war. It
is one of the poorest countries in the world. Yet the
goodness of the human spirit is still intact and there
are compassionate people running creative programs
that are helping rebuild society.
