Students from a campus Darfur-awareness group will
make a short presentation at this Sunday's AWARE
meeting, Sun. Oct. 29 at 5pm in the IMC basement where
we usually meet.

Discussion will follow the presentation.

This is a follow up to recent debates within AWARE
concerning the Darfur region of Sudan, where villagers
have suffered horrific violence at the hands of
Janjaweed militia. Activists in the US and elsewhere
have been advocating increased awareness and aid in
situations such as in Darfur, the Congo region and
Rwanda, where incredible humanitarian disasters are
routinely ignored. Many in the anti-war community are
concerned about the sudden US interest in military
intervention in Darfur, fearing humanitarian concerns
could be used to justify further neocolonial
aggression as in Kosovo (and to some extent mor
recently in Afghanistan and Iraq). The US attacked
Sudan and Afghanistan during the Clinton
Administration, and Sudan has been on the Neocon
'hitlist' since the Bush Administration took office.

This extra presentation and discussion should take
about 20 minutes, and will almost certainly leave some
issues unresolved. But it should be educational,
informative and interesting.

AWARE's regular meeting will continue afterwards.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
