SUNDAY FEB. 11: CHAMPAIGN CITY COUNCIL FORUM

"Champaign City Council elections are non-partisan, but many Champaign
County Democrats still are interested in the issues and candidates in the
upcoming Feb. 27 city primary.

That's why we're hosting a candidate forum this Sunday, Feb. 11. Come meet
the self-identified Democrats who are running for City Council, and talk
with them about the issues that matter most to YOU! Join us at Dem HQ this
Sunday, starting at 1:00PM, for a fun and informative time.

Democratic Headquarters is in downtown Champaign, just north of the
Orpheum Theater on Washington Street, a block east of Neil."

This was from the Dems. The issues I would like progressives to champion
are:

Establishing a Citizens Review Board of Police
--> Urbana is doing it. Champaign seems reluctant. Champaign's process
for filing complaints is suspect: http://www.ucimc.org/node/367

Supporting the poorest of the poor through Township funding and increased
Social Service funding.
--> Champaign township is broke. The City can help, but has been
reluctant to. Champaign spends half on social services than Urbana does
but has twice the population.

Fighting for Public Access Television in the current franchise
negotiations
--> Some City Staff in Champaign seem to be actively working against
public access in the franchise, despite the fact that the council voted to
support strong pursuit of it.

Keep Champaign Smoke-free
--> A number of the candidates are running in part to overturn the smoking
ban.

Support Municipalization of the Water System
