February AWARE Minutes


1. A letter from a Homeless Iraq veteran was read. Details about the 
individual were not available.


2. Dean Ryley, Durl stated that Dean Ryley has not replied to his inquery.


3. Student Groups­Student will meet with activists this week..


4. Illinois Collaboration for Peace and Justice –AWARE will sponsor two 
students attending the convention


5. Old Business:

A. AWARE will fund a scholarship for a local student attending collage.


B. Public i­AWARE will resume sponsorship of the Public i. There was 
discussion of both the content and format of the paper.


6. New Business:

A. Military Commissions ACT­There was an extended discussion of this 
legislation with agreement that it is one of the worst and most dangerous 
acts of Congress since the Alien and Sedition act. Support was unanimously 
shown for the petition calling upon Congress for its repeal.


B. Habeas Corpus­There was a discussion of the dangers to the the act.


C. Federal Prosecutors­Several federal Prosecutors have been forced out of 
office over the past few months. The Military Commissions act has made this 
possible.


7. Financial Report­Jan gave the financial report


8. Main Event­The last Main Event was cold but well attended.


9 Little Teapot­nothing new. There was a discussion of the episode in 
Boston in relation to a local “Little Teapot” program. It was suggested 
that a immediate follow up would be in order.

10.  AWARE Presents­The Reverend Mayberry is appearing on _____________ 
between 12:00 and 1:00 this Saturday.


11 . Anti-Racism­Pat Thompson's trial will resume on Wednesday in Court Room A


12. Use Of Tazers­County Board Social Actions Committee will meet Monday 
the 4th at 7:00 in the Brookins Building.
