"The Realities of Solar Power: Past, Present and Future"
A talk by John Perlin
Thursday February 15
7:30pm
Main Lounge of Allen Hall
Free and open to the public
John Perlin is an historian and the author of three highly acclaimed environmental books. Amory Lovins writes that Golden Thread: Twentyfive Hundred Years of Solar Architecture and Technology (with Ken Butti), is "rich
with surprises on every page." Perlin's A Forest Journey: The Story of Wood and Civilization, was described by the BBC as "one of those bold imaginative steps through history that leaves you full of excitement as suddenly events fall into a pattern for the first time." And his most recent book, From Space to Earth: The Story of Solar Electricity (Harvard University Press), was called "vivid and fascinating" by Nature Magazine. Perlin has spoken to a wide range of audiences in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Brazil and Italy. His presentations focus on the story of solar energy and of humanity's interaction with forests over 5000 years.
