  Please forward widely:

Frithjof Bergmann will be a Guest-in-Residence at Unit One/Allen Hall 2/25-3/1. He will be speaking each night of his residency at 7pm. All events are open to the public and take place in the South Rec Room of Allen Hall, 1005 W. Gregory, Urbana. See below for his complete schedule.

Frithjof Bergmann is a retired professor of philosophy who devotes his life to showing people how to implement the new vision of freedom he defended in his book, On Being Free. He taught Continental Philosophy in the Philosophy Department at the University of Michigan for 40 years. Currently, under the name "New Work," he is developing a variety of new social and economic institutions that challenge the hegemony of business corporations and humanity’s dependence on the job system. The goal of these new institutions is to allow individuals to lead lives more completely devoted to goals and activities that truly matter to them and to help individuals live in accord with what they feel is most self-expressive. He has worked with delinquent adolescents in Vancouver, homeless people in Detroit, factory workers in Flint, students in Ann Arbor, impoverished people in Johannesburg, South Africa, and with schools and local governments throughout Germany.
