  Eboo Patel and Kevin Coval will be Guests-in-Residence at Unit One/Allen Hall 2/5-2/8. They will be leading workshops, performing, and speaking each night of their residency. All events are open to the public and take place at Allen Hall, 1005 W. Gregory, Urbana. See below for their schedule.

  Eboo Patel an American Muslim born in India, is the founder and Executive Director of the Interfaith Youth Core, a Chicago-based international organization that brings young people from different religious communities together to build understanding and cooperation in social action projects. Eboo has a Doctorate in the Sociology of Religion from Oxford University, where he studied on a Rhodes Scholarship and is a UIUC and Unit One alum. He has given talks around the world on youth activism and interfaith relations and was named "one of thirty social visionaries under thirty changing the world" by Utne Magazine. He is the author of Acts of Faith (Beacon Press).

Kevin Coval is a Chicago-based poet and performance artist whose work looks critically at current cultural and political events via the lens of his Jewish identity. He has performed for four seasons on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, is a regular contributor to Chicago Public Radio, and has been featured in the Chicago Tribune Magazine, Chicago Reporter, Fly Paper, and other journals and periodicals. He is the author of Slingshots (A Hip-Hop Poetica), and has been hailed by WGN Radio as "the new voice of Chicago, whose work should stand up there with Carl Sandburg."

  9:00pm – Interfaith Movie Night: Mr and Mrs Iyer- an award-winning Indian film about a Hindu woman and Muslim man who meet and protect each other against religious violence in India. (south rec room, Allen Hall)
  Tuesday, February 6 
      7:00pm – Using Hip Hop as a Teaching Tool (south rec room, Allen Hall)
  9:00pm – Performance Poetry Workshop (south rec room, Allen Hall)
  Wednesday, February 7
      7:00pm – The Faith Line: Religious Identity and Diversity (south rec room, Allen Hall)
  9:00pm – What’s the Word? Open Mic Night hosted by Def Poet Kevin Coval
  Thursday, February 8
      7:00pm – Facilitator Training for Interfaith Engagement – for students, staff, and community members who want to learn the Interfaith Youth Core method of interfaith engagement. (south rec room, Allen Hall)
  9:00pm – Building Interfaith Bridges - learn about other faith traditions, while participating in an exciting dialogue facilitated by the staff of the Interfaith Youth Core. (main lounge, Allen Hall)
