Farmer’s Market on 16th went well.


Anti-Racism
-Planning unity march for September
- dealing with police shooting press ejection (filed complaint on 
previous Tuesday)
-note lack of proper procedure in Champaign Police release of shooter’s 
name without notification of family
-10 million dollar bond

-Patrick Thompson legal defense
$8,000 by Tuesday for 3rd trial    (goal was met and funds were 
delivered to Law offices of Wyman and Kirchner on June 19, 2007)
-Defense plans to file motions for dismissal
-Lack of AWARE donation to Patrick’s defense noted - Debate
Vote: Bob proposes contribution. 2 out of 20 present oppose 
contribution to Patrick’s defense
$50 donated by AWARE

Counter-Recruitment Group: Military presence at Thomas Paine Elementary 
in Uniform. Urbana School District Policy questioned.

Iran: Covert war being waged at present
Groups crossing Pakistani border paid by CIA and carrying out covert 
operations including alleged responsibility in the deaths of Iranian 
nationals as a greater destabilization effort- stir trouble amongst 
Kurds

Carl: Gates talks about ways Iranians are responsible for American 
deaths
Controversy: Why we must bomb Iran: seen as logical next step in war on 
terror. Iran is 3 times the size of Iraq and more military power.

Reports of western agents already operating in Persian territory

-Canadian Menonite meeting interrupted by opposition

-Dave commented about other current U.S. Covert wars (ex. Somalia) and 
suggests it be AWARE’s mission to draw attention to them by any means 
possible.

-Privatization of military to blame?
FOIA the University of Illinois for information about Blackwater’s 
activities and research Blackwater’s instillation in Illinois.

Old Business:

4th of July- Karen & Stuart meeting was held at Urbana Library.  
Thursday 22nd  application deadline noted.

Parade Application sent in on time and sign making will be held on June 
26 Tuesday
at 7:00PM Kruse home 2007 S. George Huff Drive  Urbana

New Ideas:

-Peace calendars as fundraiser

Parade on July 4th- group consent to grant money to project suggested 
limit of $200


Dupage county interstate overpass protest incident with subsequent 
arrest 3 weeks later- partisan policing?

Lt. Foley of Urbana Police confused as to legality of such a protest. 
Hoping to attain cited legislation demonstrating the legality.

June 27- 8:30 AM in Wheaton, IL. Court proceedings.

Upcoming Events:

Prayer Vigil for torture victims with 12 hours of continuous prayer.

Brian: Sat. 23rd- tour of toxic waste dump sites from 10am-4pm

Quakers: request for funds for soldier who appeared on democracy now 
and in uniform to protest

-Not My Name cross country march. Look for housing and invite to speak 
at IMC?
