I'm glad a debate has emerged over the use of the flag at antiwar events.

As I originally pointed out, I hope the College Democrats will consider utilizing a different symbol other than the flag--a non-nationalistic symbol, such as dogtags, boots, or cardboard cutouts of coffins. As well, I hope the Democrats consider commemorating the Iraqi dead as well.

I will never silence my voice about the use of the flag as an antiwar symbol. And I hope that through my voice of protest, we will not see a sea of red, white, and blue on the quad after Spring Break--but instead, will see some other symbol that will be much more powerful and that will truly unite our antiwar voices.

in solidarity for peace--not patriotic nationalism,
Martin
