At 10pm tonight on Urbana Public Television (cable channel 6) "AWARE on the Air"
considers the terrorism that the US government has committed against the people
of the Middle East and terrorism in response, notably the attack on Mumbai.
Karen Medina, Ron Szoke and yr. obdt. servt., with the aid of an
epistolarily-present David Green, survey recent and upcoming events, locally and
nationally. (See the peace-discuss archive for Randall Cotton's minutes of
Sunday's meeting and David's letter.)
Then Ron Szoke zeroes in on the central question: "Why are we still in Iraq?"
That's followed by a general discussion of terrorism, ours and theirs.
From the United States Code (par. 3077, 98 STAT. 2707):
"act of terrorism" means an activity that -- (A) involves a violent act or
an act dangerous to human life that is a violation of the criminal laws of the
United States or any State, or that would be a criminal violation if committed
within the jurisdiction of the United States or of any State; and (B) appears to
be intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence
the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the
conduct of a government by assassination or kidnapping.
Could there be a more succinct account of American (and Israeli) foreign policy?
