We must respond to Israel's continuing attacks on the people of Gaza,
calling for an end to the violence and to the long-running siege
which has created a humanitarian catastrophe there.

 * Emergency demonstration Sat Jan 3rd, 2-4pm -- University and State, Champaign

 * Signmaking Thu Jan 1st, 3-6pm -- IMC Family Room (got ideas?)

AWARE's monthly anti-war protest will be devoted to an
emergency demonstration in solidarity with the Palestinian people,
at the usual time -- 2-4pm this Saturday, January 3rd.

However the *place* will be different: a few blocks away
but still in downtown Champaign. Let's meet at:

    University Ave. and State St.
(SE corner of West Side Park)
      2-4pm Saturday, Jan 3rd

(Reason: Since November's fire, southbound Neil remains closed at
Main St., and we expect little traffic there. University
and State worked well in December so let's try it again. This is
*not* a permanent move; we still consider Main & Neil the "usual" site.
We'll have someone at Main & Neil to redirect those who don't get this message.)

** Sign Making **

We'll want new signs. If you're available to help make any,
we have the IMC Family Room booked from 3:00 - 6:00 pm *tomorrow*,
Thursday Jan 1st. We'll provide some signmaking materials.

Sorry it's short notice -- many might not even get this message
until after Thursday afternoon. If you'd like to help make signs
but can't do it then, please say so. If so, we could hold another
signmaking, maybe Saturday late morning before the demonstration.

Anyway -- if you have ideas for signs, please let us know!

A couple so far:

"Yes we can change U.S. policy towards Israel and Palestine"

and, a poster designed by Jewish Voice for Peace:
    http://www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org/publish/GazaPosters.shtml

"The True Cost of keeping 1.5 million Gazans
     in the world's largest open-air prison //
Over 2,677 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip
and 11 Israelis from Sderot have been killed since 2000 //
End the Blockade of Gaza Now //
Israel will not achieve security or peace
by slowly starving 1.5 million Palestinians."
