Mon 1/14  2:00PM  Courtroom "A", Champaign County Courthouse
   Patrick Thompson's hearing -- pre-trial motions to be heard.

Mon 1/14  6:00PM  Urbana Civic Center
   Alfred Ivy, running for State's Attorney
   as a Dem., opposite Julia Rietz in the Feb 5 primary,
   holds the second of a series of public forums,
   held every Monday night from now until the primaries.
   Hear what he'd like to do, and come bring your questions
   about the criminal justice system.

   Champaign County Health Care Consumers
   ( http://www.healthcareconsumers.org/ )
   press conference on their suit -- the only one in the US
   to be successful so far -- to revoke the tax-exempt status
   of Carle and Christie clinics, for their inadequate provision
   of health care to low-income people.  (See hearing below.)

   Hearing on IL Atty General's lawsuit against Carle & Christie Clinics.

   5th & Hill (toxic site) Neighborhood Rights Campaign,
     sponsored by C-U Citizens for Peace & Justice,
	Champaign County Health Care Consumers,
	Prairie Greens.
     Goal is to get Ameren, the owner of the 5th & Hill
     toxic site -- an old coal-gassification plant --
     to provide information about the site and
     to clean it up responsibly.

Wed 1/23  7:30PM  Channing-Murray Foundation
   "TRANSFORM: A Community-Wide Panel on Health Care"
   Panel discussion, including
     Jeff Trask (C. County Christian Health Center),
     Judith Orzamabal (interpreter at Center on Immigrants in the System),
     a doctor from Danville,
     Rob Scott from School for Designing a Society
   Sponsored by Uni High Activism Club and Channing-Murray Foundation.
   Refreshments will be served.


Thu 1/24  7:00PM  Brookens Administrative Center, near Washington&Lierman, Urbana
   County Board meeting.  They'll vote on allotting $6+ million for Clock Tower
   Restoration.  If you think there are better ways to spend that money,
   please show up and say so!  For example, Books to Prisoners has been
   supplying the County jails with books as a volunteer effort; why doesn't
   the County do so?

   The Press Will Be There.

Sat 2/2  2-4PM Ground Hog Day One Main Demonstration
   Three days before the primaries.
   One suggested theme is, How should an anti-war voter vote?

   Author Stephen Kinzer will visit C-U, speaking about his new book,
      Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq

    New Sanctuary Movement -- Immigration Open House.
    Some immigration lawyers from Granite City, IL,
    who've been working with people's cases there,
    in C-U, and in Chicago, will be here.  Come hear
    stories to turn the political abstractions of immigration
    into human terms.  More details to follow.
